Meet Miquela, the digital avataar, who is as real as the girl next door.

Miquela, was launched on Instagram in April 2016 — and today has 2.2 million followers, and almost 550,000 on Tiktok .

Miquela is CGI-Generated , an application of computer graphics which enables creating images /art/characters / animation etc..

Remember Avatar, the blockbuster Hollywood movie??

Avatar was reportedly 60% CGI imagery, with a majority of the CG character animation filmed with revolutionary new motion-capture techniques using live actors. Read about it here.

Back to Miquela…

This freckle-faced, avatar is an invention of Brud, an LA based startup. It’s lesser known that the company is backed by some of the biggest names in venture capital investment — firms like Sequoia Capital. Our sources put the company’s funding somewhere around $6 million in its recent funding round.

Brud has inked brand partnerships for Miquela with companies including Samsung, Prada, Calvin Klein and YouTube. The world’s most prominent virtual influencer, Miquela, has signed with CAA as the talent agency’s first virtual client.

The project that Brud seems to be pursuing — turning celebrity into a virtual commodity, by literally creating an unreal celebrity — is fascinating.

In 2018, Time named her one of the internet’s 25 most influential people.

With 1 million Insta followers, fellow virtual influencer Knox Frost recently partnered with the WHO to raise donations for the coronavirus battle.

Well, where is this leading to?

Maybe a more interactive, conversational, human like approach to influencing on the web?
